Fabulous Summer Employment Opportunities in Skagway, Alaska!

We operate two retail stores in Skagway, Alaska......Rushin' Tailor's QuiltAlaska (quilting emphasis) and Changing Threads (yarn and needlearts emphasis).

We are now hiring for this upcoming summer, May through mid-September employment only. Our winter staff is limited and openings are not likely for winter work.

We are specifically searching for talented quilters, knitters and needleartists (meaning cross stitch and/or needlepoint). You would not be making products, but would be fluent enough in these arts to be able to intelligently sell our products. You do not need to know ALL the arts listed, just ones specific to the department you would be hired to work in.

We expect you to be able to be physically on your feet all day in a fast-paced retail store setting. It is fun and challenging, therefore a good sense of humor is strongly recommended ! We work at least a 40 hour work week with occasional overtime hours. We work very hard and are proud of our store! You must be able to think quick and respond kindly to the attention of our customers. We do not encourage any form of laziness, so if you need a chair to sit in and want alot of coffee breaks, this is not the job for you. We make kits and cut fabrics constantly as well as kit other needlearts and knitting projects in our slow times. Organizational skills are needed. Moderate computer skills a plus.

This can be a great working vacation for the right person! We have many repeat employees who enjoy our hiking trails and beautiful scenery. This is a fabulous small town (population 900+) with charm and a great sense of serenity at the end of the day. During the day we are a very busy cruise ship port with thousands visiting daily.

We operate two retail stores including the Rushin’ Tailor’s QuiltAlaska in downtown Skagway, Alaska from the first week of May until the last week of September. Employment opportunities are for those dates only and not in the winter as staff is then limited. Part of our staff consists of college students who can only participate through a portion of the summer. Whether you can work all the May through September period or only a portion of it be sure to contact us with the dates you would be available. Some housing is available at reasonable rates, however, many of our staff have traveled in their own RV's and camp at the local campground with all facilities available.
